Ivermectin is a general-purpose antiparasitic that has been approved for use in both animals and humans. As such, FDA has registered it as a Human Use Drug with set limitations on its use in humans. Praziquantel is used to treat worm infections, such as hydatid disease, echinococcosis, enterobiasis, strongyloidiasis, and ascariasis. It works by blocking glutamate-gated chloride channels at nerve synapses (a process called nerve paralysis in parasites). To mitigate the risk of Ivermectin-resistant parasites, veterinarians recommend the use of Ivermectin in combination with benzimidazoles or trypanocides.
